Nuummite & Tourmaline Necklace

$162.00

A gorgeous Nuumnite stone from Greenland pairs perfectly with this pretty green Tourmaline oval. The green iridescence in the Nuumite matches the Tourmaline perfectly. The stones are set in fine silver wire only a highly textured backplate.  The pendant hangs 2-1/2" long from top of the flower.  All silver is 925 sterling and 999 fine silver and has been given a dark patina and polished back to show details. Chain closes with my signature hook and eye clasp.  Beautiful one of a kind piece. Handmade with love in my Oregon studio.

NOTE:  Nuummite, also known as Nuummit, is a very rare metamorphic rock that also happens to be the oldest mineral ever discovered, estimated to be around 3 billion years old. This unique crystal is made up of 2 relatively unknown minerals, Anthophyllite and Gertie. The first being a magnesium iron silicate, while the latter is in the family of lithium bearing amphiboles. Nuummite crystallizes in the form of laminates and masses, with a heavy majority of this mineral coming out of Greenland. Due to the extreme harsh weather of this country, this mineral is only capable of being mined a few months out of the year when the ground is not frozen. This mineral was first discovered by K. L. Giesecke in 1810 and was named after the area in Greenland in which it was found, Nuuk. Since his discovery over 200 years ago, only a tiny amount of Nuummite has been discovered in other places around the world.

Nuummite, otherwise commonly referred to as the “Sorcerer’s Stone,” is a rare and ancient crystal. The night-black hue of the stone summons the energy of the storm elements. As dark as the deepest depths of the ocean, Nuummite’s black is a potent source of grounding while its golden sheen lends it its magical quality and the properties of good luck.
