Smithsonite Necklace

A gorgeous blue Smithsonite stone bezel set in fine silver gallery wire on a feminine ruffled edge backplate. This stone sparkles in the light like the sun shining on crystal blue water!  Back is hand stamped with my makers mark (WRD) and sterling.  Pendant is 1-1/8”  x 2” from top of rings to bottom of stone. Hangs on an 18" sterling silver rolo chain.  Closes with my hand formed hook and eye clasp. Handmade by me with love.

Smithsonite belongs to the calcite group of minerals, a group of related carbonates that are isomorphous with one another. They are similar in many physical properties, and may partially or fully replace one another, forming a solid solutionseries.  Smithsonite occurs in a wide variation of colors. Its typical globular habit and often vibrant colors make this a desirable mineral for collectors. Smithsonite is named in honor of James Smithson, the founder of the Smithsonian Institution.
