Pennanular Pin Shawl Pin

$40.00

Sterling Silver Penannular Shawl Pin Scarf Pin made by using traditional metalsmith techniques.  I oxidized the silver snd polished back to give it an antique look.  Worn by Celtics and Vikings during the Medieval Ages, "penannular" means "formed as an incomplete ring" and is a simple and efficient way of fastening loosely woven cloth (where the pin will not leave a permanent hole).  The brooches were worn by both men and women. The brooch (resembling a horseshoe shape) measures 1-3/4” (48 mm) across.  The pin measures 2-5/8” (68mm). Forged by hand using traditional silversmith techniques made from 14ga sterling silver wire stamped 925 on backside. Because of the thickness of the wire, best worn on loose knit items such as a shawl, scarf, hat, boot topper or sweater. All handmade by me with love.
